Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Parliament Rahul Gandhi said that the Modi government not only took away the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir but also took away the rights and wealth of Kashmiris. At that time there was a Raja sitting in Jammu and Kashmir whose name is Lieutenant Governor. According to Kashmir Media Service, Rahul Gandhi said in a rally in Ramban district of Jammu region that we wanted to restore the status of Jammu and Kashmir before the assembly elections, but the BJP was not willing to do so. We will ensure that the region gets statehood back. Rahul Gandhi said that it has happened for the first time that a state has been deprived of its status.

He compared the Lieutenant Governor of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir with the kings of the old days and said that there is a king in the area whose name is Lieutenant Governor who is taking away the wealth of Kashmiris and giving it to outsiders, contracts from outside. Rahul Gandhi said that our first step will be to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir. Electricity generated in Jammu and Kashmir is being exported while the local population is worried.
